This report outlines the key environmental protection measures and achievements implemented by KCN during the reporting period, and reviews environmental data from 2023 to 2024. We are committed to promoting a green office culture, fulfilling our corporate social responsibility, and taking practical actions to reduce our environmental impact.
1. Energy Conservation
All KCN offices—including Kumon Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangdong—have adopted various measures to reduce electricity consumption. Employees are encouraged to switch off lights, air conditioners, computers, and photocopiers when leaving the office to help lower carbon emissions.
To further reduce operational costs, improve resource efficiency, and minimize environmental pollution. KBT Warehouse staff utilize natural ventilation to reduce reliance on air conditioning. Lights are kept off during daylight hours when natural lighting is sufficient.
Total electricity consumption in 2024: 190,315 kWh.
2. Promoting a Paperless Work Environment
Kumon Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, and Guangdong have implemented several initiatives to promote paperless operations:
- Digital platforms are used to send communications to instructors and staff, replacing printed documents.
- Employees are encouraged to use electronic files to reduce the cost of purchasing, printing, and storing paper.
- Digital documentation also helps optimize office space and improve cleanliness and aesthetics.
- The Hong Kong office displays environmental posters to remind staff to use digital files and print double-sided.
- The Guangdong branding team collects the required number of printed posters from teachers before promotional events and prints only what is needed to avoid waste.
- The Shanghai office has adopted electronic invoicing and uses A5 paper instead of A4 for receipt printing.
Total paper usage in 2024: 270,426 sheets.
3. Encouraging Recycling and Reuse
In the second quarter, Kumon Hong Kong office was renovated into an open-plan workspace. To support the new environment, a stationery recycling corner was set up to encourage employees to share and reuse usable items, reducing unnecessary purchases and waste. This initiative also helped lower the company’s stationery expenses.
In Guangdong, staff used cardboard boxes and packing materials are collected and reused for future shipments. Reusable utensils such as chopsticks and spoons left over from lunch are collected for future use, reducing the need for disposable wooden cutlery.
4. Fostering Green Habits
Guangdong office encourages employees to practice environmental awareness in their daily routines, most employees have a green plant on their desks. Staff are encouraged to water plants using leftover tea from the previous day, which helps conserve water and supports plant health.
This simple habit aims to raise environmental awareness and promote water conservation.
Recorded CO₂ emissions in 2024: 64 Tonnes
We recognize that protecting the planet and creating a sustainable environment is a responsibility every enterprise must uphold. KCN will continue to implement green initiatives and encourage all employees to actively participate in environmental protection efforts.
